Features: Reproduced Joc Catalan chess set by Antonio Gaudi with 4.3" King height and base diameter of 1.7". The chess pieces are weighted and have thick green felt on their bases. The dark chess pieces are made in ebony wood and the lighter chess pieces are made in Boxwood.
Weight: 1250 grams (44.09 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.
Why This Chess Set?
This beautiful "Joc Catalan chess set" was introduced at the Barcelona International Chess Tournament in 1930. This chess set was named as Catalan Set. Unfortunately 5 years thereafter, the civil war cut short all Catalan cultural movements, activities and crafts, including Art Nouveau. It is unknown as to how many chess sets were originally made but as close to nothing of those sets exist now, it is believed that perhaps this number was not huge.
